Antique French Carved Walnut

Monk's Cabinet, Vestry, Wine or Liquor Cabinet, Cupboard

19th Century (1870s-80s)

Offered for sale is a  French hand-carved walnut cabinet, bookcase or cupboard  that would be a beautiful wine cabinet or bar.  The cabinet measures H 77" x W 43" x D 20.5". Beautifully hand fashioned, this form of cabinet on stand was popular in the 17th century. It features two doors with detailed geometric carvings surmounted by carved griffin designs . Interestingly, the broken pediment sits on the rear of the upper cabinet so that it flanks the wall.  A nice touch, making the flat top of the cabinet useful for decorations and function.  Beneath the upper cabinet is a large, open space supported by fluted columns.  Two carved drawers with griffins are below the open shelf.  The great attention to details makes this a special antique

hand carved by the finest craftsmen of the period! Excellent condition for its 130+ years.  This exquisite 19th century antique piece would make a wonderful family heirloom for today and for future generations.
